As a Fire Alarm Deputy Project Leader, you will support efforts to engineer and deploy automated, secure, and resilient power and technology systems—helping deliver long-term sustainability and transformational project outcomes.
This is a training position designed for professionals with experience in fire alarm system applications and a desire to grow their leadership capabilities. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of IBC, NEC, and NFPA codes, and a background in fire alarm, electronic security, industrial controls, or building automation systems. This position supports our client’s Life Safety Group and will work across multiple customers and job sites.
Position Summary
The Fire Alarm Deputy Project Leader is responsible for learning and supporting the full project lifecycle—from budget development and scheduling to field supervision and issue resolution. This individual will work under the guidance of senior leadership, developing project plans, analyzing data, and growing into a role that leads field teams and manages customer relationships.
This is an excellent opportunity for a customer-focused, strategic thinker with strong communication skills who is looking to transition into a formal leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in running day-to-day operations of a project or sub-section of a project.
Identify, price, and manage change orders; ensure effective issue resolution.
Monitor and manage cash flow relative to project expenses.
Maintain accurate as-built documentation throughout project phases.
Document project issues, conditions, and progress.
Plan and execute project closeout activities and punch lists.
Prioritize tasks and develop detailed project action plans.
Read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
Research, compile, and manage submittals; support estimating and pricing for partially designed projects.
Work closely with supervisory staff, owners, contractors, and designers to address and resolve challenges.
Represent our client in meetings with customers, public stakeholders, government agencies, and general contractors.
Maintain accurate documentation of all verbal conversations, agreements, and RFIs.
Understand and meet timelines for deliverables and decisions.
Qualifications
Education & Experience Required:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSEE preferred), Construction Management, or a related field.
5+ years of relevant construction experience, particularly with electrical or general contractors.
Experience managing or supporting construction projects valued from $500K to $10M.
Knowledge of contract documents: drawings, subcontracts, specifications, change orders, RFIs, and submittals.
Familiarity with CPM (Critical Path Method) scheduling.
Understanding of design principles and techniques related to precision technical planning and drawings.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to organize and manage both individual and team responsibilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and PDF tools.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with Accubid (or similar estimating software) for electrical installations.
Proficiency in Primavera P6 (or equivalent CPM scheduling software).
Willingness and ability to travel to project locations as needed.
Physical & Cognitive Requirements
Prolonged exposure to computer screens and sitting for extended periods.
Manual dexterity to operate keyboards and other input devices.
Ability to reach, lift, and move objects using hands or arms.
Strong listening and verbal communication skills.
Ability to comprehend and process written and spoken information.
Capacity to apply general rules to specific problems and provide logical solutions.
Ability to understand and interpret speech accurately.
